New Business

Ø  Welcome Sheena Hixson, NCPC Aftershool Program Specialist!

Ø  Funding and Changes: Hand out of NCPC creation, mission and funding history dispersed; NCPC will continue to operate under Mercer FRC.

Ø  Strategic Planning: Moved to January 8th, 2019

o   Proposal: Strategic Plan timeline to become a 3 year plan to match that of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) implemented by Casper-Natrona County Health Department and Wyoming Medical Center. Vote required: Motion proposed by Whitney Lamb. All in favor, none opposed.

Subcommittee & Strategies Report:

Ø  Family and Parenting:     ***Seeking sponsorships for upcoming events***

Family Game Night: Family board games needed. Competitive Game Drive will begin Black Friday. Family Game Night event has been moved from February 8th to February 1st as to not compete with the Peach Basket. Event will take place at the Nicolaysen Art Museum.

Community Baby Shower: April 13, 2019. Will need sponsors to donate items for the giveaway baskets.

Family Day: 2019 Family Day will be “Living Substance Free is Out of this World” themed. Sponsors needed to help supply food for the event.

Ø  YEC

o   Suicide Prevention Walk- Sept 15th, 300+ people attended. Food was provided by Jim McBride

o   Upcoming:   October 4th - Suicide Prevention Awareness Training in Newcastle

           October 16th &17th – Suicide Prevention Awareness Training @ Dean Morgan

Ø  21st Century Community Learning Centers

o Boy & Girls Club: CCLC 10- Participation is up from 30-34 students/week to 45-50/week. Currently launching their new Lego robotics curriculum.

o Science Zone: Hired 2 new staff members! CCLC 10-Middle school program-open offering hands on volunteer experience to participants who want to clean the animal cages. CCLC 12- High school students will work on volunteering/workforce skills. 

o YMCA: CCLC 10-not present

o VIBES: CCLC 12-not present

***NCPC board was invited to join in the Fall 2018 evaluation process of CCLC funded programs. Evaluations take roughly 45 minutes and will happen mid to late October. A brief training is required to use the NOIST evaluation tool. Anyone interested in helping out was asked to contact Sheena or Alissa.

Ø  Community Prevention Strategies Group

§  4th Wednesday from 2-3pm at Mercer FRC

§  Still waiting on community needs assessment data from CNCHD and WMC. CPSG is a subcommittee of this larger county assessment and will utilize the findings to do NCPC strategic plan in November. Kyle Gammroth is now the new Community Prevention Specialist at CNCHD! Welcome Kyle!

Ø  Calendar information for Substance-free, Family Friendly events can be submitted at ncpreventioncoalition.com on the Calendar of Events page and will also be submitted to the Casper Journal, Natrona County Family Friendly 411 facebook page, and the NCPC facebook page.

Announcements: Jean Davies- Domestic Violence subcommittee is woking on data w/victims and the smart protection order process. Child protection team will be hosting Thankful Thursday Oct. 11th @ Beacon.

Sherriff’s Dept- Holiday kick off for their DUI enforcement will be Nov. 16th at 11am@ WMC west tower entrance- Open to public. B&GC- Hired a new Director- Colby Fontera! Casino Themed Family night was a success! 

DFS- Child Protection Team seeking $5k grant to fund intervention services. Time for their 5-year review for in home services and foster care. Licensed clinical position opening at state level-ANI website or state DFS website to apply.

CWCC- No updates.

WBI- No updates.

BBBS- Progressive youth has been volunteering, and looking for volunteer needs. Youth went to Jump Craze last month. Looking for “BIGs” to mentor their “littles” apply online. Still seeking a Progressive Youth Coordinator.

Cowboy Challenge Academy- Orientations and mentor training fliers passed out. Orientation Oct 15-16th, new session starts January. Seeking volunteer opportunities as they have plenty of volunteers to help.

CPD- Seeking police officers-deadline Oct. 14th. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. CPD hosting media releases, partnering with Self Help Center to spread awareness; 1 in 7 males are victims of DV, only 3% actually report. Thankful Thursday event to for Self Help scheduled for Oct. 4th (this week). Also, Domestic Violence Candlelight vigil happening this Sunday, Oct. 7th at Tate Pumphouse @6pm. Light dinner, candles and flowers to float down river provided.

SafeKids- Walk To School Event @ Cresthill Elementary will take place Oct. 10th.

Mercer FRC- Dancing with the Stars Event- Oct. 27th@ 6pm.   

Casper Housing Authority- Hiring new Director of Childcare.

Family & Parenting- Fall parenting classes schedule passed around.

Adult Learning Center- Tues Oct 16th orientation meetings @ 9am,1pm, and 6pm. New teacher hired- Lara Ryan. Volunteers needed to work with the incarcerated population T,W,Th noon-4pm. Hosting their Holiday Open House Dec. 6th 11am-6pm. Will have auction baskets and World Culture presentations and food samples.

Science Zone- Trick or treat trail Oct 27th Prior attendance was between 3-5,000 attendees. This year they are selling “skip the line” passes on Oct. 20th at their “This is Halloween” Toy dissection event.

YCC- Mirrors group open to community. Meets Wednesdays at 5:30pm. Also, Hiring 3-4 positions for their Magellan Wrap around program.

PAT- headed to national conference next week. Seeking Spanish speaking families to serve now that they have a bilingual parent educator.
